Lower Dolpo trekking is idyllic trek for those who wish to trek through off the beaten trail seeking adventure. Lower Dolpo region lies in the north of the Dhaulagiri range just below Tibetan plateau. This region holds the age old rich culture and tradition of Tibetan people and the pristine landscape. The region partly falls on the rain shadow side so inhibits semi- arid desert vegetation. Lower Dolpo trekking trail passes through Shey Phoksundo National Park region which is the largest National Park in Nepal and one of the most scenic mountain park in the world.

The park conserves rich diversity of flora and fauna with some endangered species like Himalayan thar, Snow leopard, blue sheep, Musk deer, Himalayan black bear, 29 species of butterfly, 200 species of birds like wood snipe, crimson eared rose finch, Tibetan partridge and many more. The turquoise lake Phoksundo (3,733 m.)- one of the highest altitude lake is yet another major attraction of the trekking. People in this region rare livestock for food and wool, do subsistence farming of buck wheat, potatoes, barley, mustard and beans for their living and they barter salt with wool.

Like other trekking Lower Dolpo region trekking starts with a scenario flight from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj and Nepalgunj to Juphal. From there you will trek all the way through lush forests of  Juniper and pine, Birch and Hemlock, cross deep gorge, suspension bridge, isolated villages, cross high passes, visit monasteries, up to the spectacular Tibetan landscape. Turquoise lake Phoksundo and high altitude Himalaya range of Dhaulagiri and Tibetan plateau surrounded with blue sky on the backdrop is incredible. The caravan of Yak of the Tibetan traders passing by the narrow gully as shown in the Oscar nominated film “Caravan” and the lifestyle of these Tibetan people touches heart of people. Life is not easy at that height with in inaccessibility, remoteness but the charm of people and smile on their face teaches thousand lesson of life.
