Upper mustang Trek offers Nepal's very remote, mysterious and least known unofficial kingdom. Landscape of Mustang is barren moonscape of eroded moraines and sandstone pillar. It is one of the moderate trekking which leads heart of the Mustang Lo-Manthang. To visit Mustang, trekkers walk through almost treeless landscape. This forbidden and isolated place able to hold their own distinctive culture and tradition which is rich and unique. While trekking in Nepal especially, in Mustang region trekkers can get the mixture satisfaction of nature and unique culture. Mustang trek is completely untouched by modern civilization. Trekking in Mustang region with the view of Annapurna (8,091 m), Dhulagiri (8,167 m) and other more than 35 snow capped peaks makes journey more exciting for trekkers.

Mustang trek start from Kathmandu to Pokhara. We will Take flight from Pokhara to Jomsom and trek through Kagbeni, Chhuksang, Samar, Ghami, Gheling and other Tibetan settlements. During the trek we can get the greatest view of nature as well as experience the very unique and untouched culture and traditions. This trekking destination offers lifetime experience of Himalayan dry land and its natural beauty. Without visiting Mustang your trekking in Nepal can’t be fulfilled. This trekking destination make you forget Tibet for a while.

Outline Itinerary

Day 01: Fly or Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (835 m).~ 25 minutes flight or 6-7 hours drive

Day 02: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2,720 m) and trek to Kagbeni (2,810 m).~ 25 minutes flight and 2-3 hours walk

Day 03: Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (3,060 m).~ 5-6 hours walk

Day 04: Trek from Chele to Syanboche (3,500 m).~ 6-7 hours walk

Day 05: Trek from Syanboche to Ghami (3,520 m).~ 5-6 hours walk

Day 06: Trek from Ghami to Charang (3,500 m).~ 4-5 hours walk

Day 07: Trek from Charang to Lo-Manthang (3,840 m).~ 5-6 hours walk.

Day 08: Excurrsion in Lo-Manthang.

Day 09: Trek from Lo-Manthang to Ghami (3,520 m).~ 6-7 hours walk

More Information

Meals:
When you travel to the new place for your holiday, food is most concern part of travel. While, traveling with Yarsa treks, you can experience the delightful cuisine of typical Nepali food, continental food, Italian food, Chinese food and different international cuisine. You will be suggested by your guide for good food during your trip. During the trek do not order many dishes and waste food, they have to cater more trekkers before they run off stuck. It is very hard and takes week or more for caravan and porter to brings the food in these places. You will take lunch in route side, breakfast and dinner will arrange in the same lodge/Tea house.

Drinking Water:
During the trek you can get the bottled water but it is hard to dispose plastic and it will be the big problem for environment. We will provide purified mineral water during trek. In tea house you can get bottle water and mineral water in additional cost. It will better to drink mineral water rather than bottled water.

Accommodations:
We provide you best touristic hotel in Kathmandu/Pokhara with best location. During the trek tea house is main accommodation for trekkers. A tea house is combination of lodge and restaurant. In the tea house lodge are fairly basic, some tea house you can get separate room but in the high altitude rooms are spare with two beds with blanket and little additional furniture.  There will be large dining room where you can get the warm by Bukhara stove. In the tea house there will be the solar electricity but these days most of the tea houses have electricity for charge Camera, Mobile phones and other small appliances.

Things to take:
This is very active trip we can’t stay in same place. You can take very light and necessary things. You will get porter he will carry 30 kg it means 2 trekkers=1 porter. Porters are allowed to carry 30 kg of your stuff. Porter will carry your necessary stuff in duffel bag.

Health & Fitness:
These treks are some of moderate and some of strenuous, passionate trekkers should have ability to walk for 4-7 hours a day. Trekking to the high altitude is more challenging than the low altitude. To complete the trip we have good health, average physical fitness, passionate, confidence, determination and positive attitude. If you have past hiking experience or exercising habits it will be the better for your trek. If you have pre-existing health problem such as lung, heart and other diseases it is better to consult with your doctor or inform Yarsa treks before booking the trip.

Suitable Time to Trek:
For Trekking to the high altitude we should concern about the weather condition. Autumn (Sept-Nov) and spring (March-May) is the best season for trekking in Himalayas. Trekking in summer and Monsoon (June-Aug) is affected by rain. You can also trek in winter but tempters could be most harsh for most trekkers.

Important notes:
If you’re confused to pack up your necessary things just see in the check list tab. Bring light and necessary things. You will need medium size bag to carry your daily usable stuff. The weather is subject to change in high altitude so layered clothing is recommended throughout the trek.

Day 01: Fly or Drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara (835 m).~ 25 minutes flight or 6-7 hours drive
Today we will fly or drive to Pokhara. We drive to Pokhara through the gorge of the Trishuli river and turn west to reach Pokhara. During the drive we can get magnificent view of green valleys and foot hills of the mountains. Explore Lakeside and rest overnight.

Day 02: Fly from Pokhara to Jomsom (2,720 m) and trek to Kagbeni (2,810 m).~ 25 minutes flight and 2-3 hours walk
Today morning we will fly to Jomsom with the splendid scenery of Annapurna range, Machhapuchre, Dhualgiri and other Himalayan peaks. After landing at Jomsom airport you will meet your crew (Guide and porter) and prepare your bag packs fro trekking. Trail leads you to Kagbeni (Gateway of Upper Mustang). Explore old stone house of Kagbeni and rest overnight

Day 03: Trek from Kagbeni to Chele (3,060 m).~ 5-6 hours walk
Today we walk through the edge of the Kaligandaki river. During the trek we can get the splendid view of Nilgiri, Ammos nites (religious stone according to Hindu religion), dramatic landscape and canonical cliff. Explore around Chele and rest overnight.

Day 04: Trek from Chele to Syanboche (3,500 m).~ 6-7 hours walk
Today after breakfast we walk through farming land of rice and buckwheat. On the way we can get the beautiful view of Tilicho peak, Annapurna range and Nilgiri. Another interesting view of upper mustang is unique landscape and high red cliff.  Next we will reach Syanboche, explore around and res overnight.

Day 05: Trek from Syanboche to Ghami (3,520 m).~ 5-6 hours walk
Today we climb to the small pass in (4010 m) to see the splendid view of Annapurna range, Tilicho peak, Dhulagiri, Nilgiri and other snow capped peaks. After magnificent view we descend through Lo region to reach Ghami village. Explore around and rest overnight.

Day 06: Trek from Ghami to Charang (3,500 m).~ 4-5 hours walk
Today we descend and cross Ghami river and climb to plateau and pass long Mani wall. After Mani wall trail climb to Choya La Pass (3,870 m) and drops to Charang Khola. Next, flat trail lead us to Charang. Explore around and rest overnight.

Day 07: Trek from Charang to Lo-Manthang (3,840 m).~ 5-6 hours walk
Today we walk with the view of Bhrikuti peak, Tilicho peak, Nilgiri peak and Annapurna range. Trail drops to Charang Khola and ascend to windy pass of Lo (3,950 m), from here we can get the magnificent view of Lo-Mangthang valley. Next, descend to Lo-Manthang and rest overnight

Day 08: Excursion in Lo-Manthang.
Today we will visit sightseeing places, monasteries, summer palace and view point to the north side of Lo-Manthang. If you came in May you can see Tiji festival ceremony. Get back to Lo-Manthang and rest overnight.

Day 09: Trek from Lo-Manthang to Ghami (3,520 m).~ 6-7 hours walk
Today we get back to Ghami. We ascend to Lo Pass and descend to Charang Khola. Next we ascend to Choya La Pass and walk through long Mani wall and descend to Ghami river then we will be in Ghami village. Rest overnight.

Day 10: Trek from Ghami to Chhuksang (3,050 m).~ 6-7 hours
Today we ascend to Syanboche La and see the magnificent view of Mustang valley and mountains peaks. We walk through with the view of high cliff and cave then trail descends to Chhuksang. Explore around and rest overnight.

Day 11: Trek from Chhuksang to Jomsom (2,720 m).~ 5-6 hours walk
Today we walk through the edge of the Kaligandaki river via Kagbeni. Next we will reach Jomsom and you can enjoy your last night at Mustang region with your crew. Rest over night at Jomsom.

Day 12: Fly from Jomsom to Pokhara (835 m) to Kathmandu.~ 25 minutes flight each destination
Today early in the morning we fly to Pokhara and wait for connected flight to Kathmandu.
