Sunkoshi is one of the longest rafting trip, which is 270 km (160 miles). Sunkoshi rafting is major attraction for white water adventure. Origin of the Sunkoshi River lies in Tibetan region of China and Tibetan people known as Matsang Tsangpo. In English Sunkoshi refers “Water of Gold”. Sunkoshi covers 45% water of Saptakoshi (United of seven big rivers). Sunkoshi rafting is top ten river expedition of the world, where you can experience the gigantic waves and predictable rapid of the crystal clear water.
This rafting destination is ultimate destination for professional rafters. During the raft you can get the sudden change of the landscape from hilly region to plain terai region. Sunkoshi offers more than 40 rapids. During the raft in Sunkoshi we pass through different villages, where we can see their lifestyle, culture and hospitality. Most of the inhabitants are Rai, Limbus, Newars, Chettries and Brahamins. We can see the remote part of the eastern region. During the raft in Sunkoshi you can see wilderness of eastern part of Nepal. You will be delighted chosen place for campsite. During the trip you will pass through untouched nurture of Nepal.
We start this trip driving from Kathmandu to Dolalghat for 3 hours. We start raft from Dolalghat and pass through Khalte Chayenpur, Likhu Khola, Harkapur, Rashuwa Ghat, Tribhini and Chattra. From Tribani we all giant river unite and create the form of Saptakoshi; which is biggest river of Nepal. Next you will drive or fly to Kathmandu.
Outline Itinerary
Day 01: Drive to Dolalghat and raft to Tarang Goan.
Day 02: Tarang Goan to Khurkot.
Day 03: Khurkot to Likhu Khola.
Day 04: Likhu Khola to Harkapur.
Day 05: Harkapur to Rashuwa Ghat.
Day 06: Rashuwa Ghat to Jungle Corridor.
Day 07: Jungle Corridor to Big Dipper.
Day 08: Big Dipper to Tribeni Dovan.
Day 09: Tribeni to Chatara to Kathmandu.
Day 01: Drive to Dolalghat and raft to Tarang Goan.
We drive from Kathmandu to Dolalghat and expedition starts to Sunkoshi. Before trip is on there will be brief about trip and safety. When we start out trip the river looks calm and peaceful. We pass our first rapid Kooyeh Bhir and set camp before few kilometer of Meat Grinder. Explore around and rest overnight.
Day 02: Tarang Goan to Khurkot.
After breakfast our trip is on and start rolling down to class III rapid Meat Grinder. After few kilometer down Tama Koshi “River of Copper” conflux and Sunkoshi encounters. Next we stop for lunch and explore lifestyle and culture of ethnic group. Our expedition continues to second camp before Punch and Judy rapid.
Day 03: Khurkot to Likhu Khola.
Here we can see the changing terms of its width and pass the Bat Cave then rapid takes place seriously. The rapid of this place may surprise you. After crossing the adventurous rapid we will reach Newari village and stop for lunch. After passing Newar village there will be no threat of rapid and waves. Next we set camp at the sandy site where we can see large amounts of white sands.
Day 04: Likhu Khola to Harkapur.
Today we pass small and medium sized rapid are encountered. A few kilometers below conflux of Likhu Khola we encounter the class IV known as Likhu rapid. After lunch ride lead to interesting rock formation of wall; here our white water adventure becomes more exciting. Next, we set camp near of Harkapur village and rest overnight.
Day 05: Harkapur to Rashuwa Ghat.
After some kilometer below the Harkapur Sunkoshi flow to meets the Dudhkoshi. At the conflux of two giant rivers makes our trip more interesting and pass some small rapid then stop for camp at Rashuwa Ghat.
Day 06: Rashuwa Ghat to Jungle Corridor.
Today is our one of the hard way to pass as there are many rapid left to pass. We start out trip crossing some small rapid and rapid rises progressively bigger and longer. We flow to jaws; challenge with the huge hole at certain levels and some small and medium rapid makes fun. We pass adventurous class III rapid known as Rhino Rock and cross the bridge. Here we start “Jungle Corridor” and we set camp for the night.
Day 07: Jungle Corridor to Big Dipper.
Today we pass through narrow opening and pass through thick forest to the both side. Here we can see the untouched and unspoiled wilderness of Nepal. Along the way we pass exciting rapid such as Cooper Chin and Black hole and other medium rapid. We pass through waterfalls and get the chance to bath under the waterfall; which falls from 4 hundred feet. Next, we reach to Big Dipper and set camp for overnight.
Day 08: Big Dipper to Tribeni Dovan.
Today we pass Big Dipper and wave’s rises and we have to pass some rapid it will become quite difficult and must need right strategy to handle the trouble. We pass spectacular such as watching cremations, logging of bamboos and people being ferried across in dugout. This region has huge number of Rai and Limbu inhabitant. Here we see the beautiful confluence of Arun River, Tamur River and Sunkoshi then Sunkoshi river turns to Saptikoshi (united of seven major river). Next, we set camp at the bank side of Saptakoshi River and rest overnight.
Day 09: Tribeni to Chatara to Kathmandu.
Today is our last day of our trip and we visit the Hindus holy temple Baraha Chhetra below Tribini Ghat. In Bahara Chettra Lord Vishnu’s victory over Demon then we will have lunch on the beachside. After lunch we move down to Chatara and drive or fly to Kathmandu. Otherwise you can go to Koshi Tappu for Jungle safarI
